Michael A Proud, Jr., Director of Missions
Michael Proud, Jr. has served as Director of Missions for the Orange County Southern Baptist Association since August 1, 2011. Prior to this, Dr. Proud served Southern Baptist Churches in Missouri, Colorado and California; 7 years as a staff member and 18 years as a senior pastor. Immediately prior to becoming the Director of Missions, Michael served 6 years as senior pastor at Arbor Christian Fellowship in Lake Forest, CA, during which time he served 2 years as Moderator for the OCSBA.
Michael received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Christian Leadership from Colorado Christian University (1991); a Master of Divinity degree from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (1994); and a Doctor of Ministry degree also from Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary (2001). Michael and his wife Sally have four children; three grown daughters (Andrea, Nicole, & Kadie), and a son (Stephen). The Prouds reside in Rancho Santa Margarita, CA. and are members of Crossroad Church, Tustin, CA.
Ellis Pitman, Church Health Consultant
Since January 1, 1995, Ellis has served as Church Health Consultant with OCSBA. His ministry journey began in the mid 60’s when he served as Youth Pastor at Crescent Southern Baptist Church in Anaheim while he was a student at California Baptist College (now University). From there he became Pastor at Seven Trees Baptist Church, San Jose, CA. He led the church through a relocation and building program while completing a Master of Divinity degree at Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary, Mill Valley, CA. First Baptist, Camarillo became his next ministry assignment, to be followed by serving as Director of Missions for Gold Coast Baptist Association in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties. While still living in Camarillo, he became Western Regional Manager for Mega-Focus cities, with the Home Mission Board, SBC, consulting with Southern Baptist Associations in the largest cities west of the Mississippi River. He served Capistrano Valley Church and Christian Schools in a variety of ministry assignments. Additionally, his ministry has included 17 interim pastorates and innumerable church consultations. July 31, 1966 will be the 50th anniversary of his ordination to the Gospel Ministry.
Ellis and his wife Frankie have two children and three grandchildren. They live in San Juan Capistrano, CA where they actively serve in Hope Crossing Community Church.
Pastor Ronald Vides was born in El Salvador, and came to the United States in 1989. Ronald graduated from Saddleback Hispanic Training studies, with an emphasis in Pastoral Studies. He also has Masters in Divinity from Azusa Pacific University, and received his DMin at Fuller Seminary. He has been married to Patricia since 1992, and they have one son Ricardo. Ronald is currently the pastor of Bestesda NOCC as well the NAMB Hispanic Church Planting Catalyst of Orange County and the Director of Hispanic Works for the OCSBA.
Bill Egan, Director of Church Planting
Bill served as a field church planting strategist with the International Mission Board from 2004-2015. His primary role was training, resourcing, and mentoring church planters in engaging the least reached people groups throughout South Asia. Most recently he served as the Director of Apprentice Mentoring for the South Asia Affinity. This role focused on ensuring new field personnel had appropriate mentoring throughout their initial three years on the field. Along with this, he mobilized and trained Southern Baptist churches desiring to work cross-culturally overseas. Prior to moving overseas Bill was a Customer Service supervisor for a local water district from 1984-2004. Bill studied Business Management at University of Phoenix. He also studied Missions and Cross-Cultural Studies at Southwestern, Southeastern, and Golden Gate Seminaries. Bill married the love of his life Grace in 1991 and they have three grown children, Wil, Jake, & Sydney. Bill is an avid fly fisherman and martial artist.
Matt Johnson, Communications & Media Assistant
Matt is a born and raised Orange County guy, and has been the Comm/Media Assistant for the Association since August 2016. Matt is a graduate of California State University, Long Beach where he studied Journalism, Political Science, and Underwater Basket Weaving (that’s a joke… it was actually Above Water Basket Weaving.) Matt, being a native Orange Countian will also be using his time at the Association to learn the mysterious sport of “football” since SoCal is FINALLY getting a team, luckily he has a great teacher in Mike Proud.
